Development Opportunities

As well as our formal Coach Education Courses, the general development of our coaches is fundamental to improving the quality of our clubs and athletes. An independent audit carried out in 2009 provided a number of recommendations, which we are following to shape our coach development opportunities, while recognising the ever-changing nature of the coaching workforce.

Working closely with sportscotland and British Triathlon, we are designing a comprehensive development programme for coaches which includes Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

We have a number of courses available for the coaching workforce in Scotland. These include

SwimSmooth CPD

Swim Smooth are one of our Coach Education Partners, providing much of the swimming footage for the new coach education technical DVD. They are based in Perth, Australia but run a number of swim clinics in the UK each year.  The SwimSmooth Coach Education Course is an intense program for ambitious swimming coaches of any experience or level. This three day course will be delivered to 12 selected coaches by Swim Smooth's Coaches Paul Newsome and Adam Young.

The clinic includes all of Swim Smooth’s advanced stroke correction methods, full video analysis techniques, catch and feel for the water development, stroke timing, stroke rate development and adaptations for open water.  For further details of their courses and information about them and their products please follow this link.

There will be a course delivered in Stirling this year on

Friday 9 March
Saturday 10 March
Sunday 11 March 2012

The cost of the cours is £400.

For further information please contact Brown Ferguson or follow the link above to SwimSmooths website.

Coaching Open Water CPD

This is a one day theory based workshop focusing on the specific considerations you need to think about when coaching open water swimming, including how to coach, where to coach from and the safety elements you need to consider.

This workshop is only available for qualified Level 2 and Level 3 coaches or coaches working towards their level 2 course UKCC.

The cost of the course is £40 for race licence holders or £55 for non race licence holders.

Dates of the courses will be announced but to register your interest please contact Brown Ferguson

Communities of Coaches

A coaching network has been developed across Fife through the hard work of individual clubs, coaches and the support of sportscotland's Regional Coaching and Volunteering Manager. The idea of this group is to share best practice of coaching, update one another with various news and developments, share resources and plan suitable opportunities for the workforce in the area. With the appointment of Regional Coaching Managers in other areas of Scotland, we are hopeful of expanding this network to different areas of the country.
